Award-winning financial expert, Nonhlanhla Nxele, CFP®, is the founder and CEO of Esteemed Financial Solutions and Esteemed Learning Academy. Her career started 16 years ago, and this year Nxele is the winner of the FPI It Starts with Me Award. Blue Chip caught up with her.

The FPI It Starts With Me Award

This award, launched in 2015 in conjunction with the FPI It Starts with Me programme, recognises the CFP® professional who contributes tirelessly to promoting the CFP® certification. This person entrenches the CFP® mark in their work and life, invests in their personal brand by letting others know they are a CFP® professional and also volunteers where required.

How have you entrenched the CFP® mark in your work life?

I conduct speaking engagements and webinars to educate people on the importance of comprehensive financial planning and the value of working with CFP® professionals. I also contribute through pro-bono work for the FPI and mentor two aspiring financial planners as part of the FPI mentorship programme. These activities demonstrate my commitment to promoting and upholding the CFP® mark.

What motivates you to continuously seek to grow and invest in yourself and your career?

What drives me to keep growing is the desire to make a real difference in people’s lives through financial planning, helping them build secure futures and achieve their dreams. The ever-evolving financial industry challenges me to stay informed and adapt, ensuring I provide the best solutions to my clients.

Mentoring others is also rewarding, as it allows me to guide new financial planners while learning from them. Ultimately, my commitment to making a meaningful impact in both my clients’ lives and the industry fuels my continuous personal and professional development.

What changes would you like to see in the profession?

I would like to see a shift in the industry’s remuneration structure to attract and support the younger generation entering the profession. The current compensation models often make it difficult for new financial planners to establish themselves, which limits the talent pool and diversity in the field. By creating more accessible and sustainable earning opportunities, we can foster a new wave of passionate, skilled professionals who bring fresh perspectives and energy. This change would not only help to future-proof the industry but also ensure that financial planning services are more inclusive and reflective of the diverse clients we serve.

What value do you bring to your clients as a CFP® professional?

As a CFP® professional, the value I bring to clients goes beyond financial plans. I genuinely care about their goals, dreams and concerns, and guiding them with a personalised approach to make them feel confident in their financial decisions. I take the time to understand what matters most to them, whether it’s retirement, securing their family or business or growing wealth. By focusing on their well-being, I help them navigate financial complexities with clarity and peace of mind.
