Many argue that leadership and management can’t truly be taught, yet tertiary studies provide many opportunities to develop early managerial skills. Students learn discipline through time management, gain leadership experience in group projects and practise delegation while coordinating team tasks

Assessment which involves research and presentation skills builds confidence and communication skills. Academic work also cultivates analytical thinking, critical thinking and adaptability – core competencies in any management role.

Although the most powerful learning often occurs later, when managing real teams, the foundations formed during tertiary studies shape how students collaborate, motivate peers and approach leadership challenges and this makes tertiary studies a vital cog in management development.
